Abstract

This clinical review is based on 105 cases of acute pancreatitis encounters at Pusan National University Hospital for the period of atout 11 years from November 1, 1956 to July 31, 1967.
These following results were obtained.
1) Acute pancreatitis was comonest in persons in the 4th and 5th decade (46 cases 43.8%)
2) Females predominated over males and the ratio was 54.3:43.7
3) There was no difference in mortality or morbidity between the operated and non-operated groups.
4) Of 39 cases diagnosed clinically as acute pancreatits, 5 cases of the acute abdomen requiring emergency surgical intervention were mistaken for the acute pancreatitis. So that in patients with acute abdomen similar to acute pancreatitis, diagnostic laparotomy should be recommended under keeping in mind of surgical diseases requring emergency sugical intervention.
